Kanape Brook Stream Walk - Group One

Kanape Brook Stream Walk-Group One, July 10th 8:30 am to 12:00 pm

This day’s presentation is open to anyone but is designed for youth and families who are residents of the Towns of Shandaken, Olive, Woodstock or Hurley.  Join us in the morning for a stream walk along Kanape Brook in West Shokan, NY. AWSMP staff will lead two separate groups up Kanape Brook trail to learn about stream ecology, geomorphology, and riparian vegetation. We will also spend time near a large North American Beaver lodge complex and learn how these amazing mammals can change their environment. Due to NYS physical distancing guidelines, each group will be limited to 10 individuals. All participants must agree to follow public health policies outlined for the event.

The second group will depart the Kanape Brook Trail parking lot at 9:30 am and return by 1:00 pm.  Each group will spend approximately 3 hours on the stream and hike about 4 miles round-trip. Please be aware that while the trail is generally well-maintained there are some fallen trees and other obstacles that will need to be navigated around. The wearing of face masks is mandatory when stopped for education or conversation.

Once you register please fill out our safety pledge  and the insurance and photo waiver and return them to Linda at lg457@cornell.edu
